You are Precious in God’s Sight

He finds great pleasure in you. In Jesus time, the poor bought sparrows as their offering in the Temple. Is was all they could afford, even though two sparrows sold for only a penny.

With something so common, who would be concerned at the loss of a single sparrow? But Jesus said, “Not one sparrow falls to the ground without your Father knowing.” Not one! Worth only half a penny’s value…but still our Father knows.

What a wonder – God knows the very least among us.

And what a greater wonder – God cares. Whatever you may feel or face today, “there is no need to be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6, 7)

Thank you that I am loved and valued by you. Amen.

The Privilege of Serving Jesus

8936533-14171296

God promises to lead us by “still waters”. But tensions – the hot desert winds that dry the soul – are inevitable. The rob us of clear vision and keep us from moving forward. The simplest of disagreements can so easily seem like immovable mountains. And we’re left feeling attacked. Disrespected. Defensive.

The longer the tension exists, the more deeply it wounds everyone involved.

Resistance to change hardens the heart

…but true healing begins when one is willing to say…”Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any hurtful way in me, and lead me where the good way lies.” (a paraphrase of Psalm 139:23, 24)

Help me, O Lord, to be open to learn your ways. Amen.

Never Alone

8936477-14171213

In the most difficult situations you will face today, you are never alone. Say to yourself often, “The Lord is with me, I shall not want.” Then go quietly about your work, trusting in his constant supportive presence.

Take time to remind yourself that his great power is beyond your wildest imagination. Yet, the maker of the sun and the stars is your gentle caregiver.

“As tenderly as a father treats his children, so the Lord treats those that fear him.” (Psalm 103:13)

In all that this day brings…know that you are loved tenderly. In your most trying times, pause just for a moment to draw upon our Lord’s tender care. It is the deep reservoir from which you can draw to meet your own need…and be able to offer that same loving care to others.

Please help me, O Lord, to experience a new sense of your tenderness today. Amen.

God Never Fails

8936453-14171175

God cares for you, regardless of what you may feel at this moment. He never fails. Some days our sense of His caring is so real that it seems to flow into us…and through us… with the freshness of a mountain spring. Then…there are days when it takes everything you can muster just to go through the motions of caring. That “mountain spring” isn’t flowing.

When we reach the end of our resources, our Father’s full giving is only begun.

When we have nothing left to give, we need to draw on God’s caring, sensitivity and patience. His resources…not ours…are the source of deep healing for us and those for whom we care. Reflect on the fact that you are deeply loved. Allow our Lord, the ultimate loving caregiver, to fill you with his immeasurable, supportive love.

Help me, O Lord, to share your love more fully today. Amen.

You Are Deeply Loved

Whatever this day holds, you bring God’s presence to one of His needy children today.

He’s chosen you to be God’s on-site caregiver. You do it out of love. But sometimes…in all the pressures of everyday demands…the warmth of our giving can often run dry.

When that happens…you need to be cared for. Remind yourself of how deeply you are loved – by family, by the person you care for even if they are limited in their ability to show that love. But don’t stop there. When you can, get to a quiet place for a few moments to remind yourself that…

You are deeply and wondrously loved by our most compassionate God.

And allow yourself to be strengthened as you draw on the endless resources of His love and care.

Help me, O Lord, to remember that, in all of today’s pressures, you care for me. Amen.

Let My Heart Sing

8936405-14171091

Sing! Not to perform. But sing…because it does your heart good. Sing to the Lord. It can help to change your attitude and lift the atmosphere in any room. Does the person you care for have a favorite song or an old hymn. Familiar words and tunes can stir healing memories. And singing with someone else, matching their words and rhythm, is a way of linking your hearts.

Music lifts you above life’s pressures and demands

if only for a few moments. And if you just don’t have the courage to sing, try saying quietly, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” Those comforting words are almost music. Let their promise of the loving presence of God strengthen you and the one you care for.

Grant me, O Lord, the gift of a singing heart. Amen.
